Fall / Winter 2010 |

In October I attended the Professional Landcare Network’s annual conference in Louisville, KY. This conference has proved invaluable for those of us trying to improve our landscape businesses. I gathered many contacts throughout the United States and look forward to initiating many of the ideas generated from the conference. I am currently looking for customers who are interested in participating in a roundtable discussion in regards to Green Earth Landscaping, Inc. and the services we provide. I would like your opinion on what you consider to be our strong points as an organization as well as the areas in which we can improve. We strive everyday to be the best landscape company in town and with your help, we can achieve this goal. If you are interested in participating please contact our office at: 704-698-2947. I will be scheduling roundtable discussions in the near future.

Leaf removal season is underway and our crews are concentrating on getting all of the leaves picked up at each property as well as giving everything a final cut before winter. We will be stretching out the mowing schedule in order to accomplish leaf removal and the final mowing. With the cooler temperatures approaching, we will only be mowing as needed. This is a great time of the year to allow the newly established seed time to strengthen before winter. Staying off of this new grass with the mowers is very important. We will continue to monitor all properties for mowing but please know we will be on an unusual schedule for the remainder of 2010.
A majority of pruning has been completed throughout most of the properties. If we haven’t gotten to your property yet, the work will be completed within the next two weeks. Our goal is to prune everything first then remove all of the leaves before completing the pine needle applications. If you haven’t contacted us to schedule the application of your pine needles, please get in touch ASAP. This year we purchased a large quantity of pine needles in order to meet increased demand. With the holidays rapidly approaching, a fresh application of pine needles can really spruce up your curb appeal!
This fall we have seen a huge increase in the populations of army worms. Usually army worms stay more South of Charlotte but because of the unusually hot, dry weather we’ve had, a great influx of infestations are occurring this year. If you see caterpillars around your grass or driveway, please give us a call immediately! These insects can do a considerable amount of damage in a short period of time–entire lawns can be eaten in just a few days. Our IPM practices are designed to spot these issues but if they aren’t addressed quickly, it can turn into a severe problem. The new grass seedlings can not overcome the insect damage and if damage does occur, the grass will not have a chance to heal before the growing season ends. If you are concerned about army worms, we can put down a preventative application of insecticide that will eliminate any infestations.
